On 15 July, on the occasion of the Workshop "The Strategic Environmental Assessment in the new EU programming cycle 2014-2020" was organized a session dedicated to the results of the first edition of the Quality Award Bruno Agricola for quality practices in the preparation of Non-Technical Summary in the process of Environmental assessment.

A commission consisting of Professor Vittadini, Jonathan Parker (DG Environment of the European Commission) and experts from the Ministry of the Environment analyzed and evaluated the Non-Technical Summaries on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Reporting clarity, using non-technical language or technical terms adequately described in a simplified form for non-technical public;
  • Completeness of information, in relation to the contents of the related reference documents (Environmental Report and Environmental Impact Study) and according to the priorities of the information to be communicated;
  • Presence of representative drawings/graphic works allowing an easier understanding of the text and an effective contextualization of the topics;
  • Conciseness of the information provided in terms of understanding and reorganization in a concise informative content of the Environmental Report and the Environmental Impact Study.

The first edition of the Quality Award Bruno Agricola ended with the selection of 5 Non-technical summaries  (3 pertaining to SEA procedures and 2 to EIA procedures):

    Plan: National Strategic Framework 2007-2013. FAS National Implementation Programme Research and Competitiveness
  • Developer: ARPA Emilia Romagna
    Programme: 2012-2015 Programme for Productive Activities of the Emilia Romagna Region
  • Developer: Sogin S.p.A.
    Project:  ITREC plant of the Trisaia, Project for the  ICPF installation
  • Developer: ENI S.p.A. Refining & Marketing Division
    Project: New plant EST - ENI Slurry Tecnology: innovative project for the conversion of fuel oil to diesel, to be implemented at Sannazzaro de 'Burgondi (PV)

The Award Ceremony was a useful opportunity for reflection and discussion on the theme, enriched by the presence of representatives of other European countries and the presence of the developers who had the opportunity to participate directly with their own experience and in the memory of the Director-General Bruno Agricola.

The applicants selected will receive a certificate for the mention receipt.

Before the conclusion the second edition of the initiative was launched, dedicated to the Competent Authorities for the EIA and SEA. The issue is "Tools and Initiatives for the information and public participation in environmental assessment processes" to highlights the importance of effective communication, evaluating this aspect in the language chosen, in the accessibility and completeness of the disseminated content and the plurality of tools and initiatives used.
